Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Vein Removal
What type of veins does the laser remove?
Unsightly red thread veins on the face or legs, blue veins on the legs, permanent rashes on the face (rosacea) and port wine stains.
How does it work?
A laser produces a highly concentrated beam of light that is focused on the vein. The vein absorbs the light and the vein collapses but it does not cause it to rupture or result in extensive bruising. The laser has a special deep wavelength so that the light goes straight to the vein bypassing the skin, allowing safe treatment without causing burns or blisters.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments
varies
according to the type and size of the vein. There is typically a dramatic improvement with the first treatment, however, additional treatments are usually necessary to achieve the complete desired result.
Is laser vein removal painful?
Most people experience a tolerable amount of discomfort. For those with sensitive skin or for treating larger veins, an effective topical anaesthetic cream can be applied to minimise the discomfort.
Is it permanent?
Yes! However individuals prone to vein development may develop veins in new areas, but not in the area treated by the laser.
What should be expected after the laser treatment?
Immediately following the treatment, the treated area may be slightly red and tender but not painful. This reaction usually disappears within hours or for a maximum of a few days. It is very important that the treated area is kept out of the sun and well moisturised for 3-4 weeks. The treated vein can take up to 8 weeks to
disappear
before the final result can be seen and further treatments scheduled if necessary.
